President’s Message

Dear colleagues, members of the Chamber of Financial Auditors of Romania,

The trust with which you gave me your votes honors and obliges me to make every effort, as President of the Council of the Chamber of Financial Auditors of Romania, to increase the relevance of our professional body and the quality of services provided to financial auditors.

Throughout its history, CAFR has not cease to adapt to legislative changes, regulatory frameworks and overcome the challenges imposed by the Romanian financial-accounting environment, keeping the bar high by assisting members and promoting good cooperation relations with our collaborators and partners both domestically and internationally.

I assure you that my term as President of the CAFR Council will be characterized by openness and dialogue. Together with my colleagues from the Council, we will seek to bring added value to the financial audit profession in Romania, from the perspective of the social role played by financial auditors, through the professional judgement and skepticism they demonstrate and the independence and neutrality characterizing them and their activities.

The reality of the digital reform we are witnessing is taking the form of a real revolution, marked by intensity, depth and irreversibility. The digital age we are going through reflects an overall societal change, which financial auditors, CAFR members, cannot avoid but from which they can reap many benefits. The time has come for our members to become “digital professionals,” who manage electronic data flows, collate data, and deliver added value to their clients by means of competent and efficient services.

Digitizing the services offered to members, expanding the audit market by identifying the opportunity for new services that can be carried out by CAFR members and increasing the visibility of the Romanian financial audit profession are among the priorities of my mandate.

I am convinced that the foundations of the Chamber of Financial Auditors of Romania are represented by integrity, transparency, independence and quality, and during our existence we have not stopped showing our devotion to these principles.

Looking ahead, beyond the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, we are aware and determined to pursue our goals and pass the “test of time”, so as to remain an organization as visible as possible, perceived as a reliable partner by the users of our services.

Let’s prepare for the future together! The stake will be our collective ability to highlight the financial audit profession, taking into account the Romanian reality and connecting to international trends.

I invite you to work together! I invite you to dialogue! I am calling on your responsibility and creativity, let’s unite our efforts through a constructive and sincere exchange of opinions, suggestions, actions initiated in support of the profession. This invitation to collaboration is addressed not only to the members of the Chamber of Financial Auditors of Romania, but also to our external partners, whose perspective is equally valuable.

I hereby express my availability to lay the foundations of an open cooperation with the Authority for the Public Oversight of the Statutory Audit Activity, in view of the newly appointed management. The change at the ASPAAS level can bring balance and normality between the 2 organizations that must work together in the interest of the profession and for the benefit of the Romanian audit market.

I am confident in the future and believe that we are ready to embrace the innovations that will probably redefine the financial audit profession in the years to come. During this period, more than ever, we are listening to our members’ needs and requirements, we are adapting and will continue to do so, positioning ourselves so that we can support the profession stay relevant in the present business environment, so fluctuating and full of challenges.

Adrian Popescu,

CAFR President
